LLEN Institute at ASFLA 2026

Members of LLEN Teacher Voices and Professional Learning and Materials Production teams collaborated to present a full day workshop on language and grammar teaching at a preconference Institute hosted by ASFLA 2026.  

Presentations included topics such as designing materials to support functionally orientated pedagogy, leading professional learning with teachers, fostering talk around texts and meanings, and specific grammar points for different groups of students. Participants came from a range of teaching backgrounds: early years, primary and secondary as well as tertiary contexts. Many were already familiar with SFL oriented approaches so that the discussions were very rich and productive.

The day concluded with a discussion of the kind of resources and support needed to sustain educators’ work across the sectors.
