LLEN Asia Pacific

Vision

As a sub-group of LLEN Global, our vision is to become an organization that fosters a vibrant, collaborative and innovative community of educators and researchers across the Asia-Pacific who use Functional Linguistics to empower teachers and learners, to improve literacy outcomes, and promote equitable access to quality education in diverse linguistic contexts.

  • Inclusive pedagogies for Language and Literacy education (including genre-based
    pedagogy)

  • SFL informed curriculum development and textbook development

  • Asia-Pacific literatures (including multimodal and digital)

  • Assessment as, of and for learning

Actions

  • Organize regular webinars, workshops, and conferences focused on SFL applications in Asia-Pacific contexts.

  • Develop localized teaching resources, lesson exemplars, and professional learning materials in English and key regional languages.

  • Conduct and disseminate research on the effectiveness of functional language pedagogies in the region.

  • Establish partnerships with universities, ministries of education, and teacher associations across Asia-Pacific countries.

  • Create mentoring and community-of-practice programs for teachers and early-career researchers.

  • Support the adaptation of the LLEN Teaching-Learning Cycle and related pedagogies to local curricula.
