University of Bath’s Disciplinary Literacy Symposium

Members of the LLEN community participated in the University of Bath’s Second Disciplinary Literacy Symposium on 26th and 27th June, 2025 at the University of Bath and Royal High School Bath, England.

The Symposium was hosted by the University’s Disciplinary literacy & corpus-based pedagogy: The BAWESS project, which is dedicated to exploring disciplinary literacy in schools.

The Symposium brought together leading educational specialists, linguists and academics, who presented and discussed their latest work in the areas of disciplinary literacy for curriculum learning in the context of linguistically diverse schools from a range of contexts around the globe. Several talks also focused on teacher professional development, research and academic literacy in higher education.

The Symposium drew on empirical research underpinned by theoretical insights to create a dialogue and raise awareness of the potential of disciplinary literacy to support access to the curriculum.
